About Damyang Bamboo Forest
Damyang has long been known for its bamboo. Bamboo craft, weaving baskets and everyday goods from bamboo, has been carried on here for generations.
In town there's a walking path through bamboo that reaches high into the sky, and Gwanbangjerim, the line of old trees along the Gwanbangcheon stream embankment, is designated a Natural Monument.
When summer rain falls on the bamboo grove, the sound is filtered once by the leaves and once by the ground, so it reaches you low and soft. When the wind blows, the knock of bamboo against bamboo is layered on top.
While you listen
The daegeum is a flute made of bamboo. Imagine sitting deep inside a forest full of green, and listen while breathing out slowly.
